When we started grade school,
We were all quite scared,
Holding on to mommy’s hand,
Thinking no one cared.
We started off as strangers,
Then somehow became friends,
We laughed and played together,
And followed all the trends.
Some of us were bullies,
Some of us would cry,
Some of us were on the top,
And some of us were shy.
Then we went to middle school,
Those days were the worst,
Going through so much emotion,
Thinking we were cursed.
We went to Jr. High dances,
And tried our best to flirt,
Peeking around to see who was watching,
And who’s feelings we could hurt.
We went through the halls like royalty,
Making our own little clans,
Switching boyfriends like styles,
Writing notes and holding hands.
Then we got a big surprise,
Our first year of high school came,
We tried so hard to pull it off,
Like it was some kind of game.
We tried to impress ‘the big kids’,
We tried to stick it out,
We suffered so many losses,
This filled us with more doubt.
Our last two years of high school,
We’re venturing from our nest.
We have our licenses and our dreams,
And now we have the rest.
We sit up night and day,
Worrying about what will soon pass,
Will we make it in the world,
Will our precious memories last?
Where will our friends be next year,
Will we keep in touch,
Will we ever see them
